- Which cookies we use
Three strictly necessary cookies run on every page: a session cookie that keeps the layout consistent between page loads, a preference cookie that remembers whether you dismissed the cookie banner, and a security cookie that protects against cross-site request forgery on the contact-email form. All three are first-party and expire within a browser session or within one year at the latest.
- How to manage cookies
Every modern browser lets you clear cookies, block them for a specific site, or wipe them when the window closes. The settings live under 'Privacy' or 'Site data' in Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge; look for 'Clear browsing data' or 'Manage cookies for this site'. Blocking strictly necessary cookies will not break reading, but may re-trigger the cookie banner on each visit.
- Analytics
Aggregated page views and scroll depth are counted by a privacy-respecting analytics tool that does not set a third-party cookie and does not record individual visitors. If you prefer, Global Privacy Control is honoured and will disable analytics counting on your visit automatically.
- What cookies are
A cookie is a small piece of text that a website asks your browser to store, so the browser can send it back on the next page view. Cookies do not run code and do not read your other browser data; they are name-and-value pairs with an expiry date, nothing more.
- Affiliate cookies
If you click a link that leads to the operator, the operator may set its own cookies when you arrive on its site — those sit under the operator's own policy, not ours, and we have no access to them. We do not set a tracking cookie on your browser to attribute that click.
Some affiliate networks use short-lived server-side tokens in the URL — a string of letters after the question mark — to recognise the source of a visit without a cookie. The token is attached to the request as it leaves this site and arrives on the operator's: nothing is stored on your device, and the token is not visible to any other website. If you prefer to avoid even that, open the operator's address directly in a new tab; the price you pay is identical either way, and we have said as much on the 'How we earn' page.
Cookies that remember your preferences — language, accessibility, dismissed banners — stay on your device until you clear them manually or until the expiry date we attached when we set them. Clearing cookies for this site in your browser will reset those preferences on your next visit; nothing else will change about what you see.
